Knit Stitch Patterns

Knit Stitch Pattern Saturday

This week’s stitch pattern is a swatch that I’m going to be using in an upcoming Designer Workshop on Block Island.  North Light Fibers is hosting this workshop and they sent this lovely Falkland Island Wool named Atlantic.  The stitch pattern is titled Diagonal Furrows and once again, I turned to Reversible Knitting Stitches by Moira and Anna Ravenscroft.

This swatch is 6 inch wide and almost 7 inches long.  It is knit on U.S. Size 8 knitting needles.  Knitting 2 repeats of the 10 stitch pattern, I cast on a total of 27 stitches (2 border stitches on each side) and knit 4 repeats of the 10 rows in the pattern.  I haven’t blocked this yarn yet and I’m anxious to see how soft it will become.  This is a wonderful yarn.

I will be experimenting with this stitch pattern as I did with the fancy chevron pattern.  I would prefer that the diagonals were a little further apart so that they stand out more.  Luckily this pattern has both written and charted directions.  I prefer the written directions when I knit although the charts make it much simpler to make changes to the stitch pattern.

I’m considering a pillow with this stitch pattern.  Do you enjoy knitted pillows in your home?  I think they add a cozy feel to any room.  I’d love to hear from you.
