Vintage Mary Maxim Knit Doll Dress

Meet Susie.

She’s a 13 inch Music Box Doll from Fibre Craft.

I’ve dressed her in a vintage Mary Maxim Knit Dress originally designed for a “Big Sister” Doll.

I recently contacted Mary Maxim in my continuing search for vintage doll clothes patterns for my collection.  They were kind enough to go in the archives and send me this pattern.  The booklet contains outfits for both Big and Little sister Dolls that are knit and crochet.

This dress is made with DK weight yarn and size 6 knitting needles.  The sleeves are raglan and are sewn in separately.

I’ve added a music box that plays “Happy Birthday” and I think these dolls make a lovely gift for a young girl’s birthday.

Here’s a view of the back of the dress.  I used a 5/8 inch wide piece of white grosgrain ribbon in the back opening and used 2 hook and eye closures.  I think snaps will work better but I couldn’t find them in my sewing room and I was anxious to finish this outfit.

I’m planning on making several more of these lovely dresses and adding different embellishments to dress them up a bit.
