Knitting for the Home

Turning Knit Afghan Squares into Pillows

Many years ago, I participated in a KAL at a local yarn shop that involved making a 12 inch square each week that would then be sewn together into an afghan.  It consisted of a total of 20 squares.  Unfortunately, I only knit 5 squares.  Those 5 squares have been sitting in a knitting bag for quite awhile and I finally decided what to do with them.  I bought a 12 inch pillow form and decided to sew 2 squares together to make a pillow.

The flower square is a design of my own and as soon as I can find the pattern that I wrote out, I’ll be sharing it with all of you.  I added a piece of blue felt under the flower to help it stand out.

The other square is a traditional diamond pattern of knit and purl stitches.

I learned to sew zippers into my knitting last year and so I added a zipper to make the pillow cover removable for washing.

My question to all of you is this:

Have you re-purposed parts of a knitting project that didn’t quite make it to completion?
