Knit Stitch Patterns

Knit Stitch Pattern Saturday

Today’s stitch pattern is one that I call Buckles.  The curved sections over the lines of stockinette remind me of a buckle. I discovered this pattern in the New Knitting Stitch Library by Leslie Stanfield.

The swatch measure 7 inches wide and 6 inches long.  The pattern is a repeat of 16 stitches and 14 rows.  For the swatch, I used U.S. Size 7 needles and worsted weight yarn and cast on 32 stitches (2 repeats) and knit the 14 rows repeat 2 1/2 times.

So how would you use this pattern?  I have several ideas.  One is as part of a baby blanket.  Another is along the upper edge of a tote bag leading into the straps.  What do you think?

  1. I can see the potential as a handsome border–maybe placing the curves side by side instead of spacing them? Thanks again, Debbie! BTW I’ve pretty much quit swatching new patterns. Instead they work perfectly well on the skirt of (yet) another Dishcloth Dress!

    1. I love that you’re using stitch pattern swatches as the skirts for new dishcloth dresses. The possibilities are endless!

  2. I love the dishcloth dresses, the Wedding Dress, but I am having a problem with the neck. I have made two and can’t figure out the neck. Do you cut the yarn when you bind off on the first side and attach on the other side? Thanks for your help. I can’t wait to finish them.

    1. I’m so glad that you like the dishcloth dresses. Yes, when you bind off the first side you do cut the yarn. Then attach the yarn to the stitches on the other side to complete the other shoulder. Hope that clears it up for you

    2. Thank you so much! I can’t wait to finish it. My 10 year old great-granddaughter wants to use it for her water bottle. She said it is just adorable.
