Santa wishes you a Merry Christmas

Here’s our family Santa.  A hooked rug with a story.

Santa is a hooked rug that I made more than 35 years ago for my son’s first Christmas.  One strand at a time, I hooked each piece of pre-cut yarn around the printed canvas mesh that came with the kit.  I finished sewing the binding and placed the rug on a piece of old paneling just in time for Christmas.

I hang up the Santa rug the day after Thanksgiving each year marking the beginning of the holiday season in my home.  Through the years, we’ve taken pictures of my son in front of the rug.  Now grown with a family of his own, we take a picture that now includes his family.  It’s our tradition and a wonderful chronicle of his life so far.  There were a few years when he wasn’t here for Christmas so I took a picture of the rug and sent it to him framed in a round Christmas ornament frame.

Do you have one special item that symbolizes the holiday season in your house?  Leave a comment, I’d love to hear about it.

Thank you all for taking the time to read my stories, knit my patterns, and be my friends.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday Season!

Debbie
