Giveaway! Row Counter Bracelet for Knitting

In 1997, I was getting my car repaired and was knitting while I waited.  I was working on a pattern that required knowing what row I was working on and had no way to mark my progress except a piece of paper and a pencil.  It was then that I came up with the idea of the beaded bracelet.  After a few weeks of experimenting, I designed this bracelet.

I keep one with each of my projects and I always know what row is next and where I left off.  When I’m not wearing the bracelet, I keep in attached to the handle of my knitting bag.

The wooden bead version, pictured above, is the original bracelet.  This bracelet was available through the Patternworks catalog for more than 10 years.  Now I’m happy to offer it to knitters in my Etsy shop.

I also started to make the bracelets using plastic colored beads.
This way, I can use a purple bracelet when I’m working with purple yarn

And a blue bracelet when I’m working with blue yarn.

I’d like to offer a bracelet to you.  Leave a comment sharing your method for counting rows in either your knitting or crocheting projects.  On Sunday, July 10th at 8 p.m., I’ll choose a random comment and send the winner the bracelet of their choice.

I still make each bracelet so if you need the length adjusted, let me know.  Also, if you have a favorite color, I may be able to make your row counter bracelet using that colored beads.

So, how do you keep track of the pattern row when you’re working on your project?

  1. I was sent a similar bracelet in a swap package a few years ago, and I just love them! I also use The Perfect Row Counter, made by FiberJewels on Etsy and they are wonderful. They sit on the needles and you put your needle through the next hole when you get to the end or beginning of the row depending on how you like to do it. Though there are some projects, and needle sizes that won't work with the PRC, so I still use my bracelet often, BUT I NEED MORE! I would love to put one with each project, and there are always between 3-5 I'm working on at a time!

Great job on yours.. I love the one with wood beads and leather! Do you have a website we can buy these on?

  2. I use sticky notes on the section of the pattern and then I'll make a hash mark when I've finished the row. I came up with it when I was knitting in college and the only thing around was stick notes, pencils and noisy suite-mates… lol.

  3. Oh, a braclet would not only be practical, but pretty as well.
Up until last Christmas, I would just mark the row I ended on right on my pattern, just with a little star beside it. When I took my project up again, I knew I'd have to start on the row above the one with the star. Last Christmas, my mother-in-law gave me a row counter, but I only use it sometimes, because often I just forget to click it.
Thank you for a great giveaway!!

  4. I keep track with my rows in a small spiral notebook with pen by marking a l in multiple of 5's. I have one of the Boye small row counters where you manually roll the knob to the next number. It is quicker to make a mark on the page. The bracelets looks very nice.

  5. I either make a mark on the pattern or use one of those little row counters that slip onto the end of your needle. Or, often, I just count the actual rows on the piece of knitting. That gets pretty tedious.

I love your wooden bead bracelet! It's so pretty, you'd never know it's not just jewelry!

  6. Currently I just use one of those barrel-roll counters, but I hate it. Half the time I forget to increase the count. I love the look of your bracelets!

  7. I have a dial row counter that does the job for small projects. When I am doing something big, or something that matters, I make tally marks on the pattern/my handwritten copy of the pattern. I am easily distracted! I would love to try this method! It would be right on my hand so I would not have to fumble for my pen and paper or search for the missing row counter (I dont like to put it on my needles so it ends up rolling all over the place).

Thank you for the wonderful opportunity!

  8. I have a barrel counter, paper/pencil, I've even used a extra stitch counter and moved it over a stitch thus using my knitting to count.

I've looked at the bracelets and thought of trying to make one. 🙂

This is a great offer. Your stuff is cool!

  9. I just wrap the end of my yarn around a different finger. Twice for the second round, so one repeat it is looped over my pinky. seven repeats, it's wrapped twice around my ring finger. It's not foolproof, if I get up and don't write it down I lose count. 🙁

  10. I use paper, pen and pencil. I write down the number of rows I need to knit in pen and then mark the tally marks in pencil in case I have to tink or frog!
